skinny is ugly: fat is beautiful; ugly is beautiful: beautiful is ugly
Saturday, February 21, 2009 @ 5:44 AM
The title of my post the one above ^^^ in the tiny pink print is really meaningful.
If you can't read it:

Skinny is Ugly:Fat is Beautiful; Ugly is Beautiful:Beautiful is Ugly.

I'm really concerned about the body image issues. I'm not going to say why I'm concered but something that I was discussing with Manissha the other day gave light to my eyes on how bad the body image issue is.
If I decide to go for Forensics next year, this is going to be my Original Oratory topic.
People nowdays, especially girls are very concerned about how skinny they are or how tall they are. I'm not going to say that I am not a victim of this issue but I do pinch myself and tell myself that I'm gorgeous no matter what people may think.
That is the positive way of thinking but most girls do not see it as that no matter how many campaigns there may be to help us cope with the situation.
It really is saddening to see anorexic and bullimic girls about my age, some even younger who succumb to this.
Why?
It's because of peer pressure and the entertainment world or even family itself.
Peer pressure:
When you're studying in a single gender school, it isn't so bad as girls do not give a damn if you're hawt or not. Skinny or fat. Tall or short. We are all the same.
But when you study in a co-ed school, that's where trouble starts. Even in a single gender school when you have male friends outside.
Yes!
Males are where the problem centers around on peer pressure. Males in general prefer sexy, slim and tall females compared to those who are plump and tiny and in their opinion: unattractive.
That is one reason in the peer pressure category.
In the age where we are maturing and growing up, we develop hormones that draw us to the opposite sex. And we want to get noticed. In general, to date and be in love.
Males who also develop these hormones get attracted to the skinny, tall, beautiful ones and discard those who do not fit their standards of beautiful.
Those who are discarded are up to their necks in infatuation that they would do anything to make themselves like the willowy, flat-stomached beauties that the males go for.
Hence, anorexia and bullimia. Girls starve themselves to look good and at first, they do but after a while they grow skinnier but they still deem themselves as fat each time they stare into the mirror and it becomes a habit that takes loads of counselling and rehab to cure.
Entertainment:
This is the cause of most cases of body image issues. Girls are influenced by film stars, models who go through rigorous training and strict diets to achieve the body that they have.
They wish to grow taller. To grow skinnier.
They poke at their stomach fat, wishing it to get smaller.
And so enters the habits and sicknesses that come with body image issues.
Most girls would die to strut the catwalk with stick-thin figures or walk the red carpet with unflabby body parts. Perfectly toned arms and legs. What they do not know is that strict exercises and diets are the cause. But there are cases of models and stars who are anorexic for example Mary-Kate Olsen of the Olsen twins.
Who wouldn't die for perfect figures? To most, that is the ticket to becoming famous.
Yet, if that is the reason, why do Jordin Sparks, Katherine McPhee or America Ferrera have no worries about their bodies?
They are still famous yet they still manage to look gorgeous.
You do not need a stick-thin figure to be famous. All you need is talent and determination. Do not let fame get to your brain. It's never good.
Family:
Yes!
This is also another main reason on why girls have body image issues.
The jibes come from mostly the elderly. Grandparents.
In the past, only those pretty girls get married off early and to wealthy men. Some grandmothers still retain that mentality.
My grandmother has never thought that way but I do have friends who's grandmothers pester them to get skinny.
The grandmothers would constantly bombard their grandkids with mean comments about their ever increasing size and pester them to eat less. They would give you long lectures even if you just pick up a tiny piece of chocolate.
Most girls would have been told that they are not skinny enough to be pretty from a young age and stick to the mentality when they're growing and in reference to peer pressure and developing hormones. they are desperate to get skinnier.

So, I'm calling out to all girls in the world who think that they are fat...Even if you are. Who gives a damn? You're beautiful in every single way. Who are they to tell you how you look? It's your damn life, LADIES! Live it how you want to live it. Who cares if you're fat or skinny. As long as you are healthy, you are beautiful and perfect.
Don't be living in a shadow, hiding from society just because you are fat or ugly. Everyone is beautiful. God made each and everyone of us beautiful. We are all the same. Not one person is any different. If the person has outer beauty, the inner is might be ugly or might be beautiful. Images aren't always what they seem. Do not be afraid to shine. It makes you beautiful on the inside.
Who would like to date a Barbie doll with no brains? One who can't keep up an intellectual conversation and go on and on about clothes, hair, make-up and nails. Yeah, guys would date that kind of bimbo but if you were a male, would you like to spend the rest of your life with that kind of brain?
So, ladies, stand up and shine.
There is no disappointment in shining.
Everyone shines either dim or bright.
Make yourself bright and you'll see everything in a new light.
Beauty is individualistic.
Not one person is the same.
Fat or skinny, we are all flesh, blood and emotions.
To all males out there, shut up and back off.
Ladies, stand tall and proud even if you are just 5"2.
Males, you aren't all that.
Ladies, take the stage.
Males, who needs you when we've got the world?
Ladies, the world is your stage and your stage is your star.
Lynxoxo
